Presenting the 7th annual Wrightsville Beach Biathlon! This unique race combines paddleboarding with running and is all about our community and the people and businesses that support it.

  • Paddle Clinic on Friday March 17 taught by April Zilg.
  • Starting regatta style at 10am with a 4 mile Stand-Up Paddleboard segment followed by a 4.5 mile run on the beach.
  • Finishing with a Soundside after party with chili, swag, and prizes TBA.
  • DJ Fray will be spinning classic jams throughout the entire event.

A portion of proceeds will support the North Carolina Coastal Federation’s local efforts to protect and restore coastal habitats and water quality, keeping our coast healthy and beautiful and our waters clean for swimming and paddling!

Race director April Zilg, a Wrightsville Beach-area athlete ranked in the top 10 of women’s competitive SUP racing, has outlined three different race divisions:

Individual Women and Men’s: Women and men can compete individually, testing their personal stamina in this 8 mile challenge.

Community Challenge (2 Person Team):  Compete as a relay team! Register for the Community Challenge Partner Relay and have fun with family, friends, and neighbors.

Corporate Challenge (Individual or Team):  Get sponsored by your employer! Gather your staff, organization members, teammates, & fellow athletes and wear your logo proudly in a friendly beach challenge! This is a great opportunity for team building and promoting wellness among your employees/organization! The overall winner of the Corporate Challenge division will get their names on the coveted WB Biathlon trophy, along with their names in lights for 48-hours on our digital billboard on Oleander Dr.

SUP Beginnings: Stuck in an office with no windows, staring at a computer from 9 AM to 5 PM, Ms. Zilg needed an active hobby. While on vacation she tried out SUP and upon returning home, bought herself a paddleboard. Job frustration translated into inspired time paddling, racing, and rising to a SUP world ranking!
Current Stats: April is a top paddler on the east coast, placing first in the WPA championships and top ten in Carolina Cup. April’s resume includes a summer season working on our Soundside as a SUP instructor and a SUP Yoga Instructor.
